I haven’t yet been part of a big project, although in my undergrad degree I was involved with the rival High Speed 2 project called MagLev (google it!), that was interesting as we worked in groups as if we were in a design office, planning the route the MagLev train would take through the North East!

I am currently part of a massive masterplanning project in Saudi Arabia; they want a big city built which will be on the cutting edge of sustainable technology. I’m helping with the material choices for the buildings on the project, and it’s cool to see how everything interacts; like how the PVs (the panels that collect sunlight and make it into electricity) will be put on the buildings and this will be heavy so we need to look at what materials can take that weight etc.

I am currently part of a huge project to finish building these helicopter controls! When the military asks for things they usually need them pretty quickly, so they can start using them straight away. Because of that we get loooads of people to come and help out to get the project finished as quickly as possible. My project has over 50 people working on it! I’m just a small part of it, looking at all the environmental aspects.
